USEFULNESS OF EMPLOYEE RELATION PRACTICES TO ENHANCE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT

 01. Employee Relations

      Relationships influence behaviour at work. Expectations of each other, perceptions of the intentions of either, distributions of assignments, readiness to conform or to rebel, enthusiasm to contribute, etc., are to some extent outcomes of these relationships. Attitudes and motivations influence, and are influenced by, the nature of these relationships. 


Employees are pillars of the organization with the potential skills in their fields. Employee Relations are practices for ensuring that Employees are happy and are productive. 


Employee Relations offers employee recognition, policy development and all types of problem solving.

         Employee relations is the study of the laws, norms, and agreements that govern how employees are treated both as individuals as well as a collective group. Which is prioritised the individual or the collective relationship varies between businesses according to the management's guiding principles. (KPMG Press, 2020)


     It is focused with finding ways to influence people to support the accomplishment of the organisations business goals and objectives in a variety of contexts. Making sure organisational change is approved before it is put into practice is the goal of employee relations management.(Armstrong,1998)


         According to Forbes Advisor,  Employee relations refers to the relationship between or among an employer and its employees. Depending on the context, the term has both practical and theoretical applications. Certain companies may have a dedicated team for maintaining and improving employee relations and this term may refer to this team. In other cases, the term may refer to theories, plans and policies designed to support employees and their interests.    

             Regardless of the approach, employee relations are typically overseen by a company’s human resources department.(Forbes Advisor, Online)

02. Importance of Employee Relations

There are a number of instances where one person cannot make decisions alone. He also needs other people's direction and counsel. Sometimes we might overlook crucial information, but one of our coworkers might have a wonderful insight that will help us reach our goals much more quickly. In most companies in line tasks are vital and want all line managers influence for these decisions.

If work is distributed among everyone, it becomes simple. A positive working relationship would reduce the amount of work you have to do and boost your productivity. Worker can't do everything by themselves. Hence Companies divided into different functions and a specialized persons allow for these works. 


If the staff functions as a unit, the company develops a positive work environment. A person's attention and concentration tend to suffer if his mind is constantly occupied with unneeded pressures and stress. Companies mostly used job rotation for minimize the stress of the workers.

In the presence of people, one can depend on and lean on when necessary, a person feels inspired. One performs at his best when he is safe and confident. A typical workday lasts between 8 and 9 hours, thus it is almost impossible to work continuously without taking breaks. It's important to have friends with whom you may go out for lunch, see movies, or take occasional strolls. Everyone will stop speaking to workers if you engage in conflict with them, leaving them. It's crucial to respect people in order to demand the same behaviour from them.(Opatha, H. 2019)

As per Brandix Sustainability Report (online), Healthy workplace relationships also deter interpersonal disputes and clashes. People tend to become more adaptable and quit criticizing one another. People don't waste time in pointless arguments and confrontations; instead, they focus on their job and make a strong effort to improve. They begin to interact like friends and do their best to reach agreements that will satisfy everyone (The Brandix Group , 2020 ).


Conclusion


Employee relations play a vital role in an organisation and it affects both directly and indirectly to employees livelihood a well because employee spend majority of their time at the workspace.

  16. After I read your article,I enhance the knowledge about the theory. I just like add some practical example for your post. During the covid-19 period my organisation was helped us. And gave full salary and other health side help as well. Other than that it always rewarding us for many reasons like new year gifts, new employee gift pack... etc. Then I think it is one of the key reasons most of the employees and myself working here. Then rewarding is one of the important factor if any organisation needs to exist.
